Liturgical Assistants
Participate
in services as Lectors, Lay Eucharistic Ministers and Intercessors
Acolytes
Young people who carry the crucifix
and candles and assist at the altar
Altar Guild
Prepare the altar for services as well
as maintain linens, vessels, candles and vestments
Flower Friends
Arrange flowers from home gardens and
nurseries for various services. Friends play a chief role in
decorating for Christmas and Easter.
Children's Education
Teach Sunday School and guide the children
in special events and activities.
St. John's Singers
Lead in singing at the 9:30 a,m. Sunday
services and on other special occasions.
Garden of Hope
Assist in planting, maintaining and clearing
the garden areas in front of the Parish Hall.
Adult Forum
Lead discussions on timely subjects during
Sunday morning coffee hours
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
Clothes Closet at St. Paul's-St.
James, New Haven
St. John's is
a generous donor to this program which distributes used and new
clothing to needy families and homeless individuals on Saturday
mornings.
Guilford Interfaith Ministries Food Bank
Each Sunday non-perishable foods are collected
in a basket, and donated to needy individuals and families in
the community.
Orchard House Senior Day Care, Branford
Every Sunday afternoon a church
volunteer conducts a short worship service.
Hole-in-the-Wall Thrift Shop, Guilford
Consignments of clothing and other items
may be made in the name of St. John's, with the church receiving
a portion of the sale price.
Casserole Bank
Parish members prepare casseroles for people
in need.
Christmas Gifts
At Christmas parish members purchase and
wraps gifts for two anonymous families in the community, following
wish lists that the parents and children have prepared.
St. John's also sponsors Cub Scout
Pack 472, and its facilities are made available to Alcoholics
Anonymous (meetings on Tuesday evenings)
