St. John's church search for a new vicar




Roadmap:


St. John's is now embarked on a search for a new Vicar. The following timetable outlines the steps that will be taken to reach this goal.


MILESTONE 1: SAYING GOODBYE

March 15, 2009

St. John's Vicar, the Rev. Jane Stickney, retires after twelve years of faithful service.


MILESTONE 2: BEGINNING THE TRANSITION

March 15 - May 1, 2009

Diocesan canon for transition meets with congregation and the vestry to explain the process which will lead to appointment of a new Vicar for St. John's, a process which can last approximately 18 months.

A temporary priest, suggested by the Diocese, leads worship services until an Interim Vicar can be selected.

The wardens interview candidates for Interim Vicar position and make the final selection.

Parish members nominate people to serve on a Search Committee for new vicar.


MILESTONE 3: FIRST STEPS

May 2009

Interim Vicar arrives.

Parish approves slate of members for Search Committee.

Search consultant is appointed by the Diocese to advise the Search Committee.

Vicar's position is posted through Diocesan channels.


MILESTONE 4: PICKING UP STEAM

June 2009

Search Committee convenes; sets agenda and timetable for the search.

Parish gathers to air and share ideas that will lead to a "Parish Profile".


MILESTONE 5: KNOWING OURSELVES

July -August, 2009

Search Committee begins draft of Parish Profile.

Search Committee prepares Vicar's position profile for circulation.


MILESTONE 6: FINAL PREPARATIONS

September ­ December 2009

Search Committee completes Parish Profile.

Search Committee prepares information packet for candidates.

Search Committee reviews list of candidates for position.


MILESTONE 7: MEETING THE CANDIDATES

January ­March 2010

Search Committee conducts first round of interviews


April 2010

Search Committee conducts second round of interviews


May-June 2010

Search Committee conducts final interviews; makes recommendation to Vestry

Vestry interviews final candidate(s) and confirms choice

Letter of Agreement signed with new Vicar


July 2010

Formal announcement of new Vicar's position is posted through Diocesan channels


MILESTONE 8: A NEW BEGINNING

Summer 2010

New Vicar plans for transition.

Vestry conducts exit interview with departing Interim Vicar.


September 2010

New Vicar begins ministry.

Vicar, Vestry and Search Committee plan transition.


MILESTONE 9: LOOKING FORWARD

October ­ December 2010

Vestry and Vicar review parish needs, goals, mission

Restatement of parish mission .


March 2011

Vicar and Vestry review first six months. Set goals for future.

Publication of Mission Statement.
