MUSIC AT ST. JOHN'S

By Frank Granger, Choir Director

The Singers are part of the 9:30 a.m. service each Sunday. In addition there are several special choral events throughout the year:
-- Annual Advent Celebration a joint supper and concert with our neighboring parish, the North Guilford Congregational Church. Held on the first or second Sunday evening in Advent, it brings together the two choirs in a program of festive music.
-- Community Thanksgiving Eve Service which brings together the choirs of the shoreline churches and the Temple.

A fairly new tradition involves the Pentecost Youth Orchestra which performs the music for our parish Eucharist service on a Sunday early in Pentecost. An average of ten youngsters accompany the hymns with their violas, clarinets, flutes, trumpets, saxophones, and other instruments in an exciting event eagerly anticipated by the whole parish. Individually, some of these youngsters also accompany the choir in various pieces on Sunday mornings.

The Singers are a warm and welcoming group. No auditions are required. You need only sing from the heart, wish to praise God with your voice, and be open to new musical experiences.

The organ at St. John's is located in the choir loft in the rear of the church. The loft, combined with the high ceiling barrel vault running he length of the nave, provides an excellent acoustical space for the resilient sound of organ and choral music. Ernie Adams is at the organ.
