St. John's Church welcomes you to our
website; we hope you will find information here that will lead
you to visit our church and meet our members. As a small parish,
we have a special capacity to make everyone feel welcome. One
of our newest families put it in writing: "We are grateful-more
than words can say-for the way you all welcomed us with open
arms."
We have a lively Church School, and
a dedicated Choir, Altar Guild, and Lay Ministry. Adults and
children are active not only in the church; they also volunteer
time and energy and provide financial support to numerous ministries
locally and worldwide.
Our special traditions include:
Four times a year, church members hold a Sunday candlelight Taize service: a
moving worship service of music, scripture, prayer and meditation
that originated in the monasteries of France during World War
II.
At Christmastime, church members adopt two anonymous families
and provide gifts of clothing and presents for adults and children.
In August the church's Annual Chicken Barbecue brings together
hundreds of neighbors and friends for an outdoor spread of homemade
food, fun and entertainment (All proceeds go to community outreach).
A joint Palm Sunday service and Procession of Palms with North
Guilford Congregational Church.
OUR MISSION: To be a visible, caring
witness to the living Christ: nurturing and sustaining our members
in their faith; inviting all people to share the Good News of
the Gospel; and responding with compassion to those in trouble
or need.
